Free Consultation
Start by booking a free 30-minute video consultation. We’ll discuss your concept, needs, budget, and answer any questions we can.
Within 2 days of your consult, you’ll receive an email summarizing project points, a rough price estimate, and the cost to book a full commission meeting.
Pay the commission fee to book your meeting. This non-refundable fee credits toward the final cost of your garment.
Commission
We’ll schedule 1-2 commission meetings, depending on the complexity of the project. In these meetings, we will:
Develop and finalize all the detailed parameters of your project.
Take your detailed measurements. (This can also be done via video call if you’re outside the NYC area.)
Consult with you on fabric options to best meet your vision, personal needs, and budget.
Within 2 days of your final meeting, you’ll receive a detailed quote with multiple pricing options based on your fabric selections.
Pay a 50% deposit or arrange a payment plan to secure your place on our production schedule. At this point, no further changes may be made to your design.
Construction
When the big day arrives, we’ll let you know that construction has begun and we’re bringing your vision to life! We’ll keep you updated as construction progresses.
If you are local or want to travel to our shop, we’ll do a final fitting. For remote clients, fitting needs will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
When the finishing touches are done and the final balance is paid, your completed garment comes home to you!

Yes! We’ll work with you through a video call to make sure all your measurements are taken correctly. (Please note that you’ll need a second person to help you, but they don’t need any special skills.) Alternatively, if you will be at an event we’re attending, we can arrange to take your measurements there.

At this time, we can only ship to the United States and Canada. We hope to expand our shipping area in the future!

Costs will vary widely depending on how elaborate your design is and which materials you approve. The garment will be tailored for you and so will the price. We offer free estimates as part of the initial consultation. Request a free consult now!

Lead time will vary, depending on the scope of the project. In general, you can expect actual construction of your custom garment, which is unique to you, to take several weeks to several months. Our small team has limited capacity; please note that particularly popular events such as Star Trek: The Cruise, Star Trek Las Vegas, Comic Con, and Dragon Con tend to book out far in advance, so plan accordingly.

Galactic Couture specializes in heirloom-quality pieces that you’ll want to wear again and again. These highly personalized custom costumes are made by hand by trained artists in the USA. We promise to provide a level of care and quality that’s worth the investment.
-
As a matter of professional courtesy, we will not copy another cosplayer’s original design. We are happy to work with you to develop your own design inspired by the same source material.

If you’re having trouble finding uniforms (such as for Starfleet, Imperials, Galactica, etc) that will fit your body, or you need specific fabric, we can help you out with a uniform-inspired costume.
-
Our core business is focused on tailoring — uniforms, gowns, other garments, hats, corsets, etc. We can suggest vendors for many kinds of props. We do not offer wigs, armor, chain mail, or shoes.
-
If you have issues with the materials often found in off-the-rack costumes, we can help! As part of your custom design, you can choose materials that are sustainable, allergen-free, vegan, etc.
-
You won’t be receiving cheap polyester (unless that’s specifically what you want). Depending on your design, options could include natural fibers (silk, wool, linen, organic cotton, etc), unique fashion prints, or other high-quality fabrics. Because of our location and Anna’s industry relationships, we have access to the same sources in the NYC Garment District that the professional costume community uses for Broadway and Hollywood. In some cases, we’ve even been able to source the exact same fabric used on screen! (While we cannot guarantee this, we will find the closest possible fabric to what you have in mind that meets your personal needs and budget.)

Our lead costumer, Anna Noyes, has been a professional costume maker for TV, film, and Broadway for 25 years. She’s created costumes for everything from Billy Porter’s Fabulous Godmother dress in Amazon’s Cinderella to Nicola Coughlan’s gowns in Bridgerton to the puppeteer jumpsuits in The Lion King. (See About for more details.) Now, in addition to her continuing work onscreen, she can also make costumes for you!
